Ho, Ho, Ho… Merry Christmas!
Melbourne may be thousands of miles away from the North Pole and powder white snow but it’s definitely not going to stop the city from going all out and giving you the best Christmas season ever!
Believe us when we say Christmas in Melbourne is set to be a magical and exciting time.
Le Garage has looked into some of the must-visit Christmas events in town that you simply can’t afford to miss! And don’t worry about CBD parking, either: we’ve got you covered with super low rates… and you can save even more when you pre-book your spot online!
Christmas at Fed Square
- Federation Square
- 24th November to 25th December
Watch Fed Square’s plaza transform into Christmas Square! Be enthralled by this magical forest themed Christmas festivity that’s perfect for families and children of all ages.
Visit Fed Square between the 24th of November and Christmas Day and get a photo with the jolly man in red himself! While kiddies tell Santa what they wish for in their stockings, people of all ages will marvel in the supersized 16m Christmas tree that will dominate the square.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the square at night too: from 9pm, you’ll be dazzled by a spectacular light show.
Santa in the City
- Christmas Square (City Square, Swanston Street)
- 27th November to 25th December
- 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm
- Additionally, Friday 4pm to 7pm
Have you been naughty or nice?
If you’ve been nice, then you’re in luck because guess who’s coming to town? Santa!
Children will have chance to meet Santa and tell him all their Christmas wishes this year.
And they can even get a keepsake courtesy of a free photo opportunity with Santa and his helpers. Don’t miss this free event in City Square (which transforms into Christmas Square) from the end of November and through December.
Santa’s Post Box
- Christmas Square
- Until 15th December
Do you have something to say to Santa? Perhaps a special request for a certain gift in your stocking come Christmas morning? Or maybe you just want to share a wish, a secret, or simply a “hello!”
Presented by the City of Melbourne and Australia Post, children can send their very own letters all the way to the North Pole, thanks to the City of Melbourne and Australia Post!
Address letters to:
NORTH POLE 9999
Santa is no doubt very busy this time of year, so make sure letters are sent by 15th December to receive a reply!
You can also donate a gift to Australia Post at GPO which will be delivered to a child in need.
Nativity scene blessing
- Federation Square
- 13th December
Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful and witness the blessing of the Nativity scene at Christmas Square.
And cap off the Yuletide vibe by listening to a choir perform your favourite traditional Christmas carols.
Federation Square light projections
- Federation Square
- 1st to 25th December
- Light shows commence every 20 minutes from 9pm-10.20pm
Federation Square is one of three feature sites across the city where people of all ages will be dazzled by a spectacular light show. The night sky will light up with fantastic projections on some of Melbourne’s most iconic buildings.
The two other feature sites are the State Library and Docklands.
