The merry month of December is finally here! And you know what that means – presents, get-togethers and Christmas festivities!
Last month, we blogged about some of the fantastic Christmas activities Melbourne has to offer.
We had to skip a LOT of fantastic events to create that list. And with so many great activities going on in Melbourne this silly season, it just wouldn’t be fair to leave them out!
So this week at Le Garage, we’re giving it another go! We’ve put together another list of fantastic Christmas activities in Melbourne this silly season.
Whether the events in the first list aren’t your speed or if you’ve tapped them out already, Melbourne still has plenty more to offer this December!
LEGO® Christmas Tree
- Federation Square
- 27th November to 27th December
In an age of smartphones, tablets and screens, the humble LEGO® brick has not only endured, it’s thrived. Children (and we’re willing to bet a lot of adults too) love the tiny little bricks… who doesn’t?
If you’re a LEGO® maniac, then we have good news for you.
This Christmas season is your chance to see the largest LEGO® Christmas Tree in the southern hemisphere!
Made from half a million bricks, the LEGO® Christmas Tree stands taller than a two-storey home and wider than a family car. To say it’s a bit more ambitious than the sets you owned as a kid is selling it short, to say the least!
The LEGO® Christmas Tree was officially lit on the 27th of November, and will stay up until the 27th December. Don’t miss it!
Gingerbread Village by EPICURE
- Melbourne Town Hall
- 1st to 24th December
- Daily, 9am-8:15pm
What do you get when you combine 500 kilograms of gingerbread, 360 kilograms of royal icing and 150 kilograms of marzipan with Christmas cheer?
Run run run, as fast as you can to Melbourne Town Hall to find out.
Now in its 6th year, EPICURE’s Gingerbread Village is back once again to bring Christmas delight to Melburnians. Led by award-winning Executive Pastry Chef Deniz Karaca, EPICURE has spent the last six-months recreating Melbourne entirely out of – wait for it – gingerbread!
This year, the focus of the village will be the Australian Grand Prix. We’re not sure how they’re going to make all the little details on the F1 cars out of gingerbread, but knowing EPICURE’s record, we’re certain it’ll be a sight to behold!
The Gingerbread Village by EPICURE opened in the 1st of December and will run until the Christmas Eve.
The proceeds from the nominal gold coin donation you give upon entry goes straight to the Royal Children’s Hospital. Over the years, this event has raised over $100,000 in donations. What a fantastic effort!
Show your support by visiting this incredible display until Christmas Eve. The Village is open daily from 9am to 8.15pm.
A Day of Gifts
- Collins Place, 45 Collins Street
- Friday, 8th December
There’s no better feeling this time of the year than handing out gifts to loved ones and seeing their faces light up when they see the sentimental thought you’ve put into their Christmas present.
Collins Place comes alive with Christmas cheer this Friday, 8th December, for a wonderfully festive experience sure to take the stress out of present shopping.
Located just steps from Le Garage’s Flinders Lane entrance/exit, you won’t have far to lug around your Christmas goodies as you enjoy convenient CBD parking and delightful shopping treats!
Why not end the day with a drink at Brown Brothers pop-up wine bar? Sit back after a day of shopping and enjoy some festive tunes.
Oh, and if you’re a last-minute Christmas shopper who loves local and handmade crafts, be sure to check out the Collins Place Design Market a week later on Friday, 15th December, too!
Christmas at the Old Treasury building
Step back in time to the roaring 20s, where fashion was elaborate and Christmas decorations were expensive!
This unique event showcases how people in the 1920s made their own decorations to rival those pricey pieces they longed after in-store.
Stop by the Old Treasury Building (just a six-minute walk from Le Garage!) until 6th January 2018 to view the expo.
