Everywhere you go, it seems like people are fixated on the footy.

And frankly, who can blame them? It’s finals season, after all – it’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement that comes with this time of year.

Looking for Grand Final Day parking near the MCG?

If you’re one of the lucky people to score a spot at one of the remaining finals in Melbourne, you’ll need to plan ahead.

In particular, you’ll want to look at how you’re going to get there.

In the past, the MCG offered its own parking on site, in Yarra Park.

That wasn’t the case this year (or the previous, for that matter). There are just two more AFL games left at the MCG this year:

  • Richmond vs. Collingwood, this Friday night at 7:50pm
  • And of course, the big one: Grand Final Day on Saturday 29th September

The MCG is yet to confirm if they will offer on-site parking for Richmond vs. Collingwood, and have confirmed they will NOT offer on-site parking on Grand Final Day.

Luckily, you have better options: choose Le Garage for safe, convenient, and affordable MCG and Grand Final Day parking.

Preliminary final 1

  • Who: Richmond vs Collingwood
  • When: Friday 21st September
  • Where: MCG
  • Time: 7:50 pm

Richmond vs Collingwood.

Two of the most boisterous teams in Aussie Rules are going head-to-head for a spot in the Grand Final!

Oh yes, this is going to be HUGE!

With a combined membership of 180,000 fans, tickets to this match selling out immediately were almost inevitable. And sell out they did, with tickets drying up mere hours after going on sale.

Both teams have had solid runs this year.

Fresh off their 2017 premiership high, the Tigers proved themselves as more than just a one-trick pony as the bolted to the top spot for the majority of the season.

Up against them, we have the Pies.

While they’re tipped as the underdogs in this matchup, the Magpies haven’t had a bad year either, finishing third on the ladder.

Historically, they’re one of the league’s most successful team and last enjoyed premiership success in 2010 (remember that heart-wrenching draw with St Kilda?) Their last appearance in a Premiership match was a year later, losing to Geelong.

The big one: the 2018 AFL Grand Final

  • Who: TBC
  • When: Saturday 29 September
  • Where: MCG
  • Time: 2:30 pm

The winner of preliminary final 1 will face off against the either West Coast or Melbourne, who play this Saturday over in Perth.

While Melbourne may have won their last clash in round 22 by 17 points and is currently the highest-scoring team this season, a repeat performance isn’t guaranteed.

For starters, the Eagles finished at number 2 on the ladder and have a better overall record against the Demons, winning the last three of their four final meetups. More importantly, they’ll have the home field advantage on their side.

It’s one of these teams that either the Pies or the Tigers will be facing come Grand Final Day.

While the bookies are tipping a Tigers vs Eagles final, we’re not so eager to put our money on it – you never know what will happen on the day!

Pre-finals events

  • When: Friday 28th September
  • Time: All day

The games aren’t the only thing happening either. On the day before the big one, the city throws its annual Grand Final Parade.

See the players taking part in the final in-person as they make their way down Spring Street and Wellington Parade accompanied by a procession of marching bands and roving entertainers.

There’s also a series of events taking place on the lawn just outside the MCG, including:

  • Displays
  • Prize giveaways
  • Radio shows
  • Footy panels
  • Live music

Whether you’re a die-hard fans or a casual observers, this is a great way to spend Melbourne’s newest public holiday! It’s also an excellent day out for the kids during their school holidays.
