Need Moomba parking? Choose Le Garage!

Get ready: Moomba Festival is back in Melbourne, and this year will be better than ever!

The community festival is well known for its endless list of activities. You’ll certainly want to immerse yourself in the middle of all the fun!

The Moomba festival takes place along the Yarra River, at Alexandra Gardens, and Birrarung Marr Park.

The festival will feature a variety of carnival rides, the crowning of the Moomba Monarchs, and performances from the likes of Soju-Gang, Chitra and The Mamas.

Moomba is also famous for its Birdman Rally, an event where competitors attempt to ‘fly’ over the Yarra River with the aid of homemade flying devices. It’s all in the name of charity and it’s guaranteed to deliver a lot of laughs!

Moomba Festival is a great day out for the whole family, offering activities for all ages. There’s even an activity called Yogabean – which is a yoga class just for kids!

Or if you’re looking for something to keep the adults in your group preoccupied, there are Latin Dance Workshops available and daredevil circus performances.

See the King and Queen of Moomba!

Every year the Moomba Festival elects a King or Queen (or both) for the festival. In the past,  monarchs have included Mick Malthouse, Ruby Rose, Molly Meldrum, Bert Newton and Cathy Freeman.

This year’s royalty are Jane Bunn and Archie Thompson.

Jane Bunn

This year the Queen of Moomba Festival will be Channel 7’s weather forecaster Jane Bunn.

She has studied at Monash University, the Bureau of Meteorology and Pennsylvania State University.

In addition to presenting and forecasting for Channel 7, Jane is also the weather forecaster and presenter for 3AW Breakfast with Ross and John.

Archie Thompson

The man who will be crowned King of Moomba Festival is Archie Thompson.

Today, Archie is a commentator on Fox Sports but was previously best known as a footballer for Melbourne Victory. He currently plays for Murray United FC, a club based in Wodonga.

He even represented Australia for the Socceroos, and during his time in the green and gold,  broke the record for the number of goals scored in an international soccer game (13, for those of you playing at home!)
