Regent Theatre

The stunning Regent Theatre, located at 191 Collins Street, is a 2143 seat theatre used for various musical, opera, and theatre performances.

It’s known for its lavish interior and stunning original ceiling in the Rococo style.

The Regent Theatre first opened in 1929, and suffered a devastating fire in 1945. Thanks to the introduction of television, the theatre struggled, and closed its doors in 1970. During this time, there were suggestions to demolish the building, and it lay derelict for 26 years.

Thankfully, after an extensive redevelopment, the Regent Theatre reopened in 1996 with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard. It is owned by the Marriner Group and is listed on both the National Trust of Australia and the Victorian Heritage Register.

Forum Theatre

Located literally steps from Le Garage’s Flinders Street exit, the Forum originally opened in February 1929. At the time, it was Australia’s largest capacity theatre. It’s been on the Historic Buildings Register since 1978 and has hosted local and international musicians, comedians, and films.

The Forum underwent exciting renovations and reopened in April 2017. It is owned by the Marriner Group.

Princess Theatre

Think of the Princess Theatre and the word ‘iconic’ jumps to mind. That stunning Spring Street Façade, the grandeur, and even the ghost sightings: all signs point to an iconic piece of Melbourne’s history.

International musical productions that have been held at the Princess Theatre include:

  • Les Miséreables
  • The Phantom of the Opera
  • Mamma Mia
  • Dirty Dancing
  • Hairspray

Just like the Regent Theatre, the Princess Theatre is listed on the National Trust of Australia and the Victorian Heritage Register. It is also owned by the Marriner Group.
