Like many musical acts, Fleetwood Mac is just as famous for their behind-the-scenes drama as their music. Everybody knows that the band has had a, shall we say, fluid lineup, with members coming and going frequently.
You’ll be pleased to know however that the current lineup features four of its five most prominent members.
So this September, get ready to see…
You could argue that Stevie Nicks is the most well-known band member of Fleetwood Mac, despite joining the band several years after its formation and initial success.
She entered the band with then partner, Lindsey Buckingham. Their relationship became a topic of great interest for fans and the media.
Her contribution to songs like Rihannon and Dreams, as well as her solo career with hits like Edge of Seventeen, have made her a household name for decades.
Fans won’t be disappointed if they are hoping to see their favourite band member up on stage: Stevie will be there, tambourine in hand, singing her heart out – at 71 years of age!
Making up the “Fleetwood” half of the band’s name, Mick Fleetwood is one of the original members of the band, since its formation back in 1967.
Mick’s drumming has been a staple of the band throughout its entire history. From their self-titled debut album, to Rumours, to Say You Will, Fleetwood’s unconventional drumming style has outlasted many dramas and lineup shake-ups.
The “Mac” half of Fleetwood Mac, John McVie is the only other original Fleetwood Mac member left.
And just like Mick, John is the only other band member to appear on every single Fleetwood Mac album.
While he’s known nowadays for his bass playing, he was also at one point married to keyboardist Christine Perfect, and played a large role in her being accepted as a full-time member of the band.
While the marriage didn’t last, John McVie’s role in the band certainly did.
Even today, his soothing bass continues to hold the band together, and no doubt played a huge role in their ability to win hearts with their music and unique sound.

Christine McVie (formerly Christine Perfect) is one of three lead vocalists for Fleetwood Mac, as well as their keyboardist.
As such, she’s one of the most essential elements of Fleetwood Mac’s sound.
Despite her 1976 split from bassist John McVie, she continued playing with Fleetwood Mac until the mid 80s.
It wouldn’t be until 2013 that she would return to Fleetwood Mac, completing the lineup (and making many a diehard fan’s dreams of a reunion finally come true!)
Newcomers – Mick Campbell and Neil Finn
There’s an old saying in show business: “the show must go on”.
You really have to hand it to Fleetwood Mac. Many other bands would struggle after the departure of Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac’s line up gave the band two choices:
draw the curtain on their long years of success, or simply, carry on.
If the fact that we’re here didn’t tip you off, they went the the second one!
Replacing Lindsey are two talented guitarists, both of whom have plenty of musical street cred of their own.
You might know Mike Campbell from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, where he was lead guitarist. With the 2017 disbanding of the group, this old master was free to explore other avenues – luckily for us, Fleetwood Mac just happened to be hiring!
Joining him on guitar will be a name that should be familiar to all friends across the Tasman.
Neil Finn, former frontman of Split Enz and Crowded will also be joining Fleetwood Mac in Melbourne.
