It might be the shortest month, but February is jam-packed with exciting events throughout Melbourne. Two of the most popular (and the two we’re possibly the most excited about!) are White Night and KFC’s Twenty20 International.
Read all about these two thrilling events, and don’t forget that when you travel to the city, choose Le Garage for the best parking in Melbourne. Book your parking in advance and save! Book online here!
Since its inception just a few years ago, White Night has become one of Melbourne’s most popular events.
Every year in February, we see the city light up in a display of spectacular light shows from 7pm all the way through to 7am.
This year, White Night is taking place on Saturday 18th February through to the morning of Sunday 19th.
What Can I Expect at White Night 2017?
There’s something for everyone to enjoy this year at White Night! Some highlights include:
Children’s Gallery at the Melbourne Museum
Plan a family-friendly White Night at the Melbourne Museum, and make sure you take the time to witness the remarkable light show on the Royal Exhibition Building.
Melbourne’s Best Buskers
On a normal workday you might walk past these talented groups without paying too much attention to them, so on White Night submerge yourself in the talent and joy of some of Melbourne’s most-loved buskers!
You can find this top talent throughout the night on the corner of Russell and La Trobe Streets, and Lonsdale Street between Swanston and Russell Streets.
Neon Angel Wings
This awesome light show allows you to show off your angelic side in front of a luminous angel wing light.
The neon light has a four-metre wingspan and will be lighting up the Melbourne Town Hall (Swanston Street). Little angels and devils can also get a picture in front of mini wings!
This one is seriously cool.
Classic fairytales will be projected on buildings all along Flinders Street. Best to wait until after the sun sets (so from around 8:30pm) to enjoy this light show. Rich, vivid colours will delight both young and old!
Who’s Afraid of Colour?
Stunning work by a variety of Indigenous women can be found on White Night at the Ian Potter Centre at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Federation Square.
Just on the other side of the Yarra at Alexandra Gardens you’ll find the Medusa! An illuminated jellyfish will emerge from the water and float above Melbourne.
The Red Detachment of Women
For one night only China’s National Ballet will perform a spellbinding and rousing story set in the 1930s of an all-female group of the communist Red Army.
Please note that this is a ticketed event at the Arts Centre. Buy tickets here.
Fingers of Light
Head to Melbourne Central and view a spectacular light show of the famous tower and ceiling.
View the entire list of activities, light shows, and exhibitions on White Night’s official website.
White Night Road Closures
Please be aware that there are several road closures in the CBD during White Night.
Le Garage’s Flinders Street entrance/exit will not be accessible during White Night, however the Flinders Lane entrance/exit is accessible to local traffic.
Russell Street (to the west of Flinders Lane) will be closed, however you will still be able to access Le Garage’s Flinders Lane entrance/exit via Exhibition Street.
