Construction to metropolitan and regional train lines will soon be underway as a part of Metro’s Autumn Blitz initiative.

The upgrades will include improvements made to the regional line, the removal of a number of level crossings, and the construction of the metro tunnel.

Vline has planned the upcoming train line upgrades to align with the school holidays and Easter period during April.

This effort has been made in an attempt to try and minimise the effect the Autumn Blitz will have on the public’s travel plans.

However, in spite of this there will still be instances where it’s best to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements.

And what better way to visit the city or the MCG than with secure, convenient, and hassle-free CBD parking at Le Garage?

Whether you’re in town to visit the theatre, cheering on your favourite team at the footy, or simply getting to work, Le Garage makes CBD parking simple.

Metropolitan train line interruptions

The metro tunnel build and the removal of level crossings throughout Melbourne will affect multiple train services during March and April.

The following services will be replaced with coach services between the below dates. You can view a full list of the replacement services available here.

Buses will replace trains on specific dates during the following periods.

  • Cranbourne and Pakenham lines: Wednesday 27th March – Tuesday 23rd April
  • Stony Point and Frankston lines: Monday 1st – Tuesday 23rd April
  • Sandringham line: Saturday 23rd March – Monday 22nd April
  • Mernda line: Saturday 23rd March – Sunday 14 April
  • Glen Waverley line: Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th April

As you can imagine, disrupting these train lines (and replacing them with bus services) is going to add a considerable amount of time to your travel!

In fact, commuters are being warned to allow an extra hour for their commute!

Interruptions to regional services

The Autumn Construction Blitz won’t only affect people looking to use public transport in the city: it was also make travel plans harder for those looking to travel from the country to Melbourne.

V/line services will also be affected because  the initiative involves plans to improve the regional train lines. Interruptions include:

  • Ballarat line – Saturday 23rd – Sunday 31st March
  • Geelong line –  Tuesday 16th April – Sunday 21st April
  • Gippsland line – Saturday 6th April – Tuesday 23rd April
