Are you a bit of a masochist? Have always wanted to be yelled at by an incompetent hotelier, served by a clueless Spanish waiter, and swept up in wacky hijinks?
If you answered yes, well, let’s just way you have an interesting choice of pastime.
Fortunately, we’re not going to judge. In fact, we have great news for you: Fawlty Towers – The Dining Experience is back in Melbourne!
“Nothing faulty about this evening of superb food and comedy” is how Limelight magazine described Fawlty Towers – The Dining Experience. Now in its 20th year, this hybrid show combines a hilarious live show with a delicious dining experience.
Whether you’re a fan of the classic BBC show or simply looking for an interesting night out, this is an event you can’t afford to miss during this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival!
What’s Fawlty Towers all about?
Of course, we can’t talk about the dining experience without discussing the legendary sitcom on which it’s based!
Broadcasting from 1975 to 1979 on BBC Two, Fawlty Towers only ran for a total of two seasons and surprisingly, only 12 episodes were ever made.
Despite its brevity however, its lasting impact has been huge, ranking first in the list of 100 Greatest British Programmes by the British Film Institute, beating out long-runners like Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Doctor Who, and Blackadder!
The show chronicled the dysfunctions of a fictional hotel run by the titular Basil and Sybil Fawlty, their shall we say colourful hotel staff and challenging guests.
Fawlty Towers – The Dining Experience
- When: 17th-22nd April 2018
- Where: Stamford Plaza Melbourne – 111 Little Collins Street
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is closely associated with stand-up. That said, that’s not the only thing the festival has to offer – Melbourne also plays host to a range of other hilarious performances.
Including this one!
Returning to Melbourne for six days only, this critically-acclaimed show fuses live performances with expertly-prepared food courtesy of the Stamford Plaza Hotel for a unique dining experience.
Unlike the sketchy chef employed in the show, the food at Fawlty Towers is guaranteed to be edible – the Stamford is a 5-star hotel, after all!
In addition to the three course feast that awaits, you can also expect a show that’ll have you crying with laughter.
One of the great things about Fawlty Towers is that no two shows are the same. Expect a lot of improv – up to 90% of the show is made up on-the-spot by the stars of the show!
Best of all, much of it directly involves the audience, meaning that every performance is unique to you. After all, the eccentric guests were as much a part of the show’s charm as the staff!
If you’ve ever dreamt of staying the night at Fawlty Towers, then this is the show for you.
