Running (pun intended!) on Sunday, 28th July, Run Melbourne is a fantastic excuse to get outside and stay active this winter.

Introducing Run Melbourne

Run Melbourne was established to encourage the people of Melbourne to be more active, while simultaneously raising money for a cause that’s close to your heart. 

With a range of different runs available depending on your level of fitness, Run Melbourne is a great opportunity to get out during winter, and maybe even challenge some of your friends while you’re at it!

So if you’ve got a passion for running and are eager to beat your PB, want to test your mettle, or simply want to participate in something for a good cause, there are four things you’ll need to do:

Preparing for Run Melbourne

Arrive early and warm up

Any Melbourne local knows that our weather can be… unpredictable, to say the least. As such, it’s hard to say what the weather’s going to be like on the day.

No matter how the weather shapes up however, a good warm-up is still essential – especially if you want to avoid injury or a mid-run stitch!

If you turn up early enough, you’ll be able to participate in the group warm up.

Professional trainers and instructors run attendees through a warm-up routine that will get your day off to a great start and get your muscles ready for the run.

Not to mention, it’s a great way to psych yourself up!

The group warm up will include energetic music to get your blood pumping and your head in a positive space for the day ahead.

Combined with dynamic stretches that are perfect for preparing your body before a long run, and we strongly recommend setting your alarm early and taking advantage of the group warm-up session.

Pick the running track that best suits you!

If you’re keen to have a run but not sure if you can make the full distance, don’t worry!

With July already underway, Run Melbourne is right around the corner. 

The run has three different courses to cater to everyone’s fitness levels:

  • 5km run (10:30am) – Adult $55 | Under 18 $45
  • 10km run (9:15am) – Adult $72 | Under 18 $50
  • 21.1 km run (7am) – All participants $125

4K Friendship Dash

If you’re keen to take part but don’t fancy yourself much of a runner, you can join in the 4km Friendship Dash.

It’s 100% free to sign up to and you can walk, skip, or jog along the Yarra River. Move at your own pace – this Dash is untimed, and just an excuse for a little fun with friends or family!

Book your Run Melbourne parking online with Le Garage

Are you starting to get excited about Run Melbourne? 

Been training for a few months and keen to pull on those running shoes?

Or are you a last minute entry just looking to have a fun day out and face the brisk winter weather?

Either way, you’re going to have an exceptional time with some exceptional people!

But as always, it’s best to plan ahead. As with any other community event, road closures are inevitable. Take note of local and main road closures, and plan accordingly.

Road closures on the day

There’s quite a few road closures on the day to facilitate Run Melbourne – you’ll need to have a game plan in place for your Run Melbourne parking. 

If you’re looking to get to Federation Square parking, keep in mind the following roads near Federation Square will be closed.

Full closures

  • Batman Avenue – 4:30am to 11:30am
  • Princess Bridge Southbound – 4am to 12pm
  • Princess Bridge Northbound – 4am to 8:15pm
  • Boathouse Drive – 4am to 11:30am
  • Linlithgow Avenue – 4am to 12pm
  • Queens Street Bridge – 4am to 8:45am

Partial closures

  • Flinders Street – 4am to 8:15am

Luckily for you, the 5km and 10km runs commence after 8:15, meaning you’ll be able to access our Flinders Street parking as normal.

And if you’re participating in the half-marathon, don’t worry, Flinders Street is still open to eastbound traffic, allowing you to access our parking garage. 

And remember, Le Garage is also accessible via Flinders Lane!
